Age: 4+
Duration: 10 minutes
Learning Objectives: Make diverse craft projects. Combine multiple materials. Develop fine motor skills. Inspire creativity. Incorporate literacy activities into craft projects. Encourage open-ended project ideas.
You’ll Need:
- R22004 Sockles
- Elastic band
- Scissors
- Markers or paint
- Stuffing, such as tissue paper, cotton balls or rice
This is a great activity to do on a rainy day or when you want to get some quiet time in your classroom. Students will love focusing on making their wonderful little undersea character.
Fill the inside of one Sockle with rice, scrunched tissue paper or cotton balls. Fill up the Sockle to the center.
Tie an elastic band around the point between the instep and the cuff. The filled part of the
Sockle will make up the octopus’s head.
Use scissors to cut tentacles for the octopus. Cut 8 equal strips straight up along the
cuff towards the elastic band. Leave a bit of slack between the cut and the elastic band.
Use a black marker to draw the octopus’s face.
Add in details with marker. Color in the rest of the face and tentacles.
Make a lovely underwater scene, all ready for summer!
