In Flanders fields the poppies blow

As November 11 is fast-approaching, we recognize the importance of remembering and the bravery of veteran heroes around the world on Remembrance Day. To mark the day and remember the family members of students who have served, decorate your classroom with poppy wreaths! Check out our previous Remembrance Day posts for craft ideas and inspiration.
This year, we suggest a simple craft:
Age: 4+
Duration: 10 minutes
Learning Outcomes: Explore history and memory with young students. This is also a good time for a genealogy lesson; challenge students to ask parents about family members who may have served in WWI. Exercise fine motor skills.
You’ll Need:
- R42005 Remembrance Day Poppies
- cross template
- Crayons
- Scissors
Download and print out the cross template. Students can cut the crosses out. To add some rigidity to your cross, glue the paper to cardboard or card stock and trim away the excess.
Decorate your cross. We have chosen to do a simple outline and write “Lest We Forget” on our cross, but students can tailor their crosses to specific family members, or choose to decorate in another way.
Complete your poppy.
Once your poppy is complete, glue it to the cross.
