United Art & Education uses our Color Diffusing Circles!

United Art & Education uses our R24908 Color Diffusing Circles to make rose-window style stained glass images!

The process is very simple and can be applied to most other Color Diffusing Circle projects. First, the R24908 Color Diffusing Circles were folded in half twice. A pencil was used to sketch in a rose-window like design on the portioned part. Later, the artist applied watercolor markers to add color and definition to the sketch.

The final step used a paintbrush to dab water onto the colored parts. This distributes the color through all the underlying layers.

When the paint is dry, unfold the entire Color Diffusing Circle to reveal the complete art underneath!

Two Big Two Little Uses our First Look Light Table Kit!

Our R59260 First Look Light Table Kit gives you all the materials you need to explore light and color changing properties and add a new dimension to learning in virtually all educational subjects! Two Big Two Little posted up their experiences using our kit on their very own homemade light table!

In the post, Tricia shows you how to make your very own homemade light table and presents some interesting points on why a light table is the IT item in your learning classroom.

For starters, kids love color. When you overlap colorful translucent materials on a lighted surface, the colors ‘mix’ to create a new color, just as they would when mixing paint colors together… except you don’t have any major clean up afterwards!

Check out some of the materials that Tricia’s children used on their homemade light table. Everything from beads (R2183 Fancy Stringing Rings) and See Through Buttons (featured in our First Look Light Table Kit).

Tot School uses our Rubbing Plates!

Tot School made an assortment of rubbing plate prints using our R5804 Flowers Rubbing Plates! Check out Sweet Pea’s review on how well the prints turned out!

Sweet Pea’s technique for using the rubbing plates is a great start for early learners with developing fine motor muscles. Using the non-dominant hand to hold the rubbing plate and paper in place, rub crayon across the surface of the paper with the dominant hand. This helps to reinforce muscle control and encourages patience and timing while making rubbing plate prints.

And the flowers turned out lovely! Sweet Pea found that using block crayons helps to create an even image all throughout. If you are using regular crayons, be sure to use the side of the crayon rather than the point. The point will spread too much of the crayon over the paper and will blend the rubbing plate image in with the rest of the color.

Another important tip that Shannon wrote was that the images themselves could be used for botanical lessons: Use the provided identification sheet to connect the images to real existing flowers. Learn about flowers by name and match them to the rubbing plate images!

Mrs. Knight uses our Retro Pop Paper!

Mrs. Knight shows us her beautiful classroom with her detailed photo gallery! One of the photographs shows Mrs. Knight’s take on table numbers!

Mrs. Knight published “Inspiration to Fruition… Thank you!” on August 9, 2013 where she talks about her various inspirations for her classroom.

The table numbers she made were made from our R15303 Retro Pop Paper. Cover a metal table clamp with a folded sheet of Retro Pop Paper! Tape the edges of the paper together to secure. Decorate the front and back of the Retro Pop Paper with black marker–write a letter or a number to organize your students into groups!

Art Propellor uses our Straws and Connectors!

One Sunday a month, our local Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery hosts a family drop-in night, which brings in a large group of children of all ages! The programs are organized to help children explore a range of art materials and activities. A popular feature of these art programs is our very own Straws and Connectors!

Our local art gallery maintains its own blog at Art Propellor, also a WordPress site. Check out the artistic posts here!

The KWAG is a great place to be–whether you are gallery-viewing or dropping in for one of the many hosted art programs (ranging from audiences of children to adults), the gallery features a variety of inspirational activities.

Our Straws and Connectors made a big impact at the KWAG Family Sundays events. A post was made entitled: “Family Sundays are Back!” which not only highlighted the success of the event, but also featured images of our Straws and Connectors! The post was published on October 22, 2012.

The Straws and Connectors are versatile enough for a variety of projects. Build sculptures, structures, and more!

Connect the colorful straws together with 5-pointed connectors to make a variety of three-dimensional shapes.

Jeanene from Earth Boys uses our Stained Glass images!

Jeanene from Earthboys posted a great feature on her blog about holiday crafts. One of the crafts featured was our R52085 Snowflake Stained Glass Frames!

Jeanene’s post can be found at her site Earthboys and is entitled, “Handmade Holidays, Yarn Along — Angels and Fairies.” Her post was made on December 11, 2010.

Jeanene’s photos show a beautiful backdrop of the lovely palm trees in her family’s yard. What a beautiful contrast! The colorful snowflake seems to “fit in” with the bright green and golds of the tropical forest.

Beautiful work! Jeanene’s boys helped to cut out each of the individual pieces and glue them to the sections of the stained glass design.

When hung from the window, the sunlight can beam through the colorful snowflakes to illuminate the paper.

Life on Seaside Farms uses our True To Life Human X-Rays!

As part of their “Fall Fun” special post, the Life on Seaside Farms II blog posted a photo of their children playing with our R5911 True To Life Human X-Rays! This science product is a great way to introduce younger grades to basic properties of the human body.

Learn about bone arrangements and how the skeleton structures organs and other important tissues! In addition, learn how the skeleton is important for giving shape to our bodies.

Loralee Lewis uses our Paper Doll Pads!

Loralee Lewis makes beautiful stationery for sale at her website here. Loralee’s experience with paper makes this Paper Doll Pad project an innovative craft for Thanksgiving! Celebrate diversity with fun paper doll characters for your Thanksgiving table!

Loralee Lewis posted her craft on November 22, 2008, entitled: “Gathering Together Activity and Thanksgiving Kids’ Table.” She notes that Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate diversity, and what better way to do so than through customizable paper dolls?

The Paper Doll Pads come in a variety of skin tones! Use construction paper for the clothes and decorate the faces with black marker. To stand the paper dolls up, glue on clothespins to the paper backing! Loralee shows you how at her blog post.

Tape the hands together to represent the importance of community! Tip: Decorate characters to look like historical figures.

Art With Ms. K uses our Fossil Rubbing Plates!

Ms. Katzin of Art with Ms. K used several of our rubbing plates, including R5870 Linear Rubbing Plates and R5817 Animal Skins Rubbing Plates, as texture mats for clay sculptures. She explores a variety of textures and materials and guides her students to make gorgeous clay pendants!

Ms. Katzin published her post, entitled “Kindergarten Fossils,” on January 17, 2013. She used regular clay to bring out the best textures.

Our rubbing plates are great for introducing texture to pre-K art classes. For this activity, Ms. K got her students to press rolls of clay onto the textured rubbing plates. Once they removed the clay, they could shape the sides of the clay rolls into pendants.

To use the texture rubbing plates for making clay sculptures such as bowls, place a sheet of parchment paper below the clay. Roll out the clay into a flat 1/4″ thick slab. Next, choose your favorite textured rubbing plate. This next step will allow you to transfer the texture onto the clay piece.

Simply press the rubbing plates onto the clay slab and lift off. Gently loosen the parchment paper from the textured clay by peeling off the paper from the corners. When you are finished removing the clay, manipulate the textured clay slab into a curved face for a bowl or a cup. For the most adventurous, shape the clay slab into a dynamic sculpture, like an animal!
